Our Mission
Sonoma MERP (Medical Equipment Recycling Program) exists to ensure that no senior or disabled individual in Sonoma County goes without the medical equipment they need to live independently and with dignity.
We believe that quality medical equipment should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances. By collecting gently used equipment from those who no longer need it and redistributing it to those who do, we're creating a sustainable cycle of community support.
How We Started
Founded by members of the Sonoma senior services community, MERP began with a simple observation: countless seniors were storing medical equipment they no longer needed, while others were struggling to afford the same items.
What started as a grassroots effort to connect neighbors has grown into a comprehensive program serving all of Sonoma County, powered by over 30 dedicated volunteers from healthcare providers, senior care agencies, and community members who believe in our mission.
Our Process
Collection: We accept donations of gently used medical equipment at any of our three locations throughout Sonoma County. Our volunteers assess each item for safety and functionality.
Refurbishment: Equipment is thoroughly cleaned, tested, and repaired if needed. We follow strict safety protocols to ensure every item we distribute is in excellent working condition.
Distribution: Individuals in need can request equipment through our partner agencies or by contacting us directly. We work to match available equipment with those who need it most, completely free of charge.
Our Values
- Dignity: Everyone deserves access to the equipment they need to maintain independence
- Community: We're neighbors helping neighbors — building connections while meeting needs
- Sustainability: Recycling equipment reduces waste and makes quality care accessible
- Compassion: We serve with empathy, understanding the challenges our neighbors face
- Excellence: Every piece of equipment is thoroughly inspected to ensure safety and quality
